About Science

Written by Cynthia Fridsma

If Johannes Kepler (1571 - 1630), didn’t calculate the planetary motions in the dark ages than we would still believe that the Earth is the center of the universe. Now we know that we aren’t, though we still speak of the ‘sunset’ and the ‘sunrise’. But the movement is done by the earth in a cycle of 24 hours. And if Jupiter had more mass, than we would have a solar system with two stars, instead of one.

How many of us realize that the sun is a star? If we would leave Earth than we would see with our own eyes that the sun is indeed a star and that our world is nothing more but a planet, like Mars, Venus, Mercury et cetera. They all circle around the sun. But still we’re talking about ‘a sunset’ and ‘a sunrise’, although we know that it is not the sun that circles around us.

Superstition held us imprisoned, we have explained the laws of mother Nature too long with the ‘ laws of superstition’ and yet we’re still not free of it. For instance: “Do you really think, honestly, that our daily lives are influenced by the planets?” Yet, most of us read the ‘astrology’ pages in the newspaper, magazines et cetera and some of us believe them too! But why are they so vague? And how come that two predictions from different newspapers on the same day are totally different? And how come that twins can have such a different fate? It would be impossible if you believe in astrology, because both are born in the same zodiac, with the planets in the same area.
