The D Shape

This D chord is one of the easiest of all chords to play.

Now let’s try sliding it up the neck. You can get a lot of mileage out of this chord by simply sliding up and playing only the top three strings. Here’s a D shaped G chord.

Or you can add a bass note to the chord on the fourth string

The name of this chord comes from the second string, or the fourth string if you play the bass note.
